A collection of articles from a variety of magazines, from Vanity Fair to Hustler, this is not unlike a Louis Theroux collection. However, it concentrates on individuals rather than groups, and perhaps more mainstream characters than Theroux. From porn stars to republican film-makers, stoner skaters to neo-nazis, the characaters are loud, wild and interesting.

The structure is sometimes a little jumbled and confusing, which can make you lose track. There are some references, particularly to American culture and politics that I didn’t quite follow, but that is probably my failing rather than the author’s.

In summary, this was a very interesting read which sparked an interest in a variety of topics.
