A wide range of clubs are available to the children in school; we actively encourage the children to become involved. Children in the
early years are offered football and one other club during the year. Children from P4 are however offered an ever changing programme
depending on the suggestions made by School’s Council. Clubs run 3-4 days per week and include football, basketball, tag rugby,
badminton, cookery, study, art and cycling proficiency.
Early Birds
Parents have the facility to drop their children off at 8.15 am each morning to attend ‘Early Birds’ Club. Children have the opportunity to
play games and complete art activities in a safe, supervised environment before the formal school day begins.
A ‘Late Bird’ Club for P1-3 children is run from 2pm – 3pm each day to allow parents to make just one pick-up in the afternoon.
Educational Visits
Visits take place throughout the year; we value the input they can have to children’s education. Trips in recent years have included
Streamvale Open Farm, W5, Belfast Zoo, Exploris Aquarium and Down County Museum. Each class has at least one trip per year. To
supplement this, visitors are invited into school; they bring a wide variety of experiences and resources to the children. Regular
visitors include PSNI, dental nurse, Ards Borough Council, NIFRS, Charlie a local poet and West Midland Theatre group.
Children in P6 and P7 have the opportunity to take part in extended residential visits. Trips are offered to the mainland and to an
outdoor centre within Northern Ireland. These trips have great benefits, both educationally and socially.
Music & Drama
Choir
There is a strong musical tradition in the school. The choir performs at various school and community events.
School Productions
School musical productions form an important part of our repertoire. All children are involved in a Christmas production when family
and friends are invited to attend. Foundation and Key Stage 1 children present an annual Christmas Nativity, while Key Stage 2 pupils
lead a Carol Service in Ballygowan Presbyterian Church. A musical production for Key Stage 2 takes place on a 3-year cycle. Previous
productions have included Annie, Joseph, The Wizard Of Oz and the Lion King. All of our children are encouraged to participate in
some way in keeping with our belief that musical and dramatic experience should be available to all.
