When stormy times come …

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25 (New King James Version)

If you read the whole of the parable Jesus spoke you will see that the Rain, Floods and Winds struck BOTH houses. The meaning being that in this world it does not matter if you are ‘righteous’ or whether you are ‘unrighteous’ — the storms of life will hit both!

Surely those who are unrighteous will often be hit harder simply because their lifestyle puts them in the front line of disaster. Self-inflicted disaster that is.

However even the Godly and righteous will have times when disaster seems to strike very hard indeed. At times it will even seem as though the ‘good’ suffer more than the ‘bad’. The basic unfairness of life on earth sometimes is very frustrating and disconcerting.

However the fact is that no matter what storms come, if we have our ‘house’ built upon the rock (Jesus Christ) and are firmly anchored in Him we shall stand firm and not fall (in the end). God’s Word assures us that true believers are kept by the power of God (1 Peter 1:5) — that is the Holy Spirit — and that He will cause ‘ALL things to work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

That is not ‘pie in the sky’ it is eternal fact. We cannot fail and though we may stumble and sometimes even fall, God Himself will cause us to rise again and stand firm to the end.

Let me encourage you firstly to receive God’s gift of Life now (if you haven’t already) and to build your ‘house’ firmly on the Word of God and upon the Rock Jesus Christ. If you do ‘you will (ultimately) never fail’ – We have His Word for it!

Theophilus
