Can these bones live?
DRY BONES
“He… set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones…Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones, ‘Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life…and you will know that I am the LORD.’” Ezekiel 37:1-6 NASB | Inspiration network
It was a dark time for God’s people. Many had been exiled and were feeling hopeless. The Temple had been destroyed, and its treasures taken. But then God gave Ezekiel a startling vision, bringing him to a valley full of dry bones-a place where there was no life.
In this vision, the Lord told Ezekiel that these bones would be given new life. He would “make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin” (Ezekiel 37:6). Then God breathed on these bodies and they “came to life and stood on their feet.” Moreover, they became “an exceedingly great army” (Ezekiel 37:10).
God explained that “these bones are the whole house of Israel” (Ezekiel 37:11). He told them they would “come up out of your graves,” “come to life,” and be placed “on your own land” (Ezekiel 37:12-14).
For centuries, these prophecies remained a mystery. Many asked, “Will God actually bring His people ‘into the land of Israel’ again?” This seemed impossible. Yet, in the 20th century, this is exactly what happened. The world watched with amazement as Jews came from across the globe and were united in the land of Israel. Yes, God’s Word was true!
Just as these dry bones have come back to life, we can be sure that all of the Bible’s prophecies for Israel will be fulfilled. People in the world may doubt God’s Word, have their own interpretations, or pursue their own goals. But we can be sure God will keep His promises-all of them. He will accomplish His purposes, and He will bless those who bless His people.
